Iced coffee with 15 g of protein and 80 kcal, made in a shaker in the time it takes the kettle to think about boiling. Latte macchiato flavour, Robusta beans, no added sugar.

About

The recipe is short: whey protein concentrate (85%), soluble Robusta coffee (12%), flavourings, sea salt, a coconut oil creamer and stevia. Each serving carries 80 mg of caffeine.

It is high in protein, and protein contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass. It is suitable for vegetarians.

Be clear on what it is: a protein coffee for mid-morning or mid-afternoon. At 80 kcal it is not a meal replacement, so do not swap lunch for it.

  2. Powder in. About two scoops (22 g), after a quick shake of the pouch.

Frequently asked questions

How does 80 mg of caffeine compare with a coffee shop latte?

It varies by chain, but a single espresso shot is often quoted at around 60 to 75 mg. This sits in that range.

Can I make it with milk instead of water?

You can, but the label figures assume water. Milk adds calories and a little more protein.

Is it a hot drink too?

It is designed to be served cold over ice. Hot liquid in a sealed shaker is also a bad idea.

Is there any sugar?

No added sugar. The 0.7 g per serving occurs naturally in the milk-based ingredients.

How much caffeine is too much?

Healthy adults are advised to stay under 400 mg a day from all sources, or 200 mg when pregnant.
